Ermine Ameraucanas are a brand new variety developed by Becky Pelton of Dusty Bugs Poultry. It took 14 years of careful breeding using only top-quality birds to get this beautiful coloration. The variety is still in the project stage, but is are already in the process of being APA approved. The Ermine coloring breeds differently than any other standard poultry coloration. Ermine, Black and Dominant White birds all play a role in this color. I have several different breeding pens and I will be able to give you an idea of what percentage of Ermine colored, Black and Dominant White chicks you will get from my eggs. I was lucky enough to get eggs from the original breeder, as well as several other top breeders. I am very pleased with the quality of birds I was able to hatch. Ameraucana chickens are notable for their blue egg-laying ability, a characteristic shared by only a few chicken breeds. The Ameraucana breed was established in the United States in the 1970s, originating from Araucana chickens brought from Chile. Breeders aimed to preserve the blue-egg gene of the Araucana while addressing specific issues inherent to the Araucana breed. Ameraucanas are recognizable by their distinctive muffs and beards, pea combs, and are prized for their gentle and affectionate nature. The blue eggs they lay can range in color from light blue to greenish-blue, and are medium in size.
